Prime Minister of the TRNC paid a courtesy visit to TURKPA Secretary General

On 3 April 2026, the Prime Minister of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC), H.E. Mr. Ünal Üstel, paid a courtesy visit to the Secretary General of the Parliamentary Assembly of Turkic States (TURKPA), H.E. Ambassador Ramil Hasan.

Secretary General welcomed the distinguished guest with a cordial greeting, expressing his pleasure at hosting TRNC Prime Minister at the TURKPA International Secretariat. He also extended his congratulations to Mr. Üstel on his address delivered at the Meeting of Heads of Government/Vice President of Government of the Organization of Turkic States (OTS), which was held in Baku the previous day. Emphasizing the active participation of the TRNC Assembly in TURKPA as an observer, Secretary General Mr. Hasan also noted that the TRNC is regularly invited to TURKPA activities. He further emphasized that, thanks to the initiative and continued support of H.E. Mr. Ilham Aliyev, President of the Republic of Azerbaijan, the TRNC has been represented at the highest level at all relevant meetings of the OTS held in Azerbaijan.

TURKPA Secretary General further briefed the delegation on the upcoming activities of the organization. In this regard, he recalled that the Speaker of the Assembly of the Republic of the TRNC, H.E. Mr. Ziya Öztürkler, has been invited to the Informal Meeting of Speakers of TURKPA Member Parliaments to be held for the first time on the margins of the 152nd Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union. He underlined that such Informal Meetings of Speakers, to be convened within TURKPA, are intended to facilitate the implementation of decisions and to serve as preparatory platforms for the Plenary Sessions.

In turn, TRNC Prime Minister expressed his gratitude for being in brotherly Azerbaijan and, in particular, for visiting the TURKPA International Secretariat. He noted that a broad framework of cooperation has been established between the TRNC and Azerbaijan across various fields and voiced his confidence that similar frameworks would, in the near future, extend to other Turkic States. The Prime Minister also highlighted that recent developments have further underscored the strategic importance of the TRNC in the Eastern Mediterranean. He also conveyed his profound appreciation to H.E. Mr. Ilham Aliyev and to the Government and people of Azerbaijan for their unwavering and principled support of the TRNC’s national cause.

Mr. Üstel further referred to the potential of the Turkic States in contributing to addressing the workforce needs of his country.

The delegation accompanying the Prime Minister during his official visit to Azerbaijan included Mr. Ali Pilli, Member of the Republican Assembly; Mr. Berhan Ongan, Undersecretary of the Prime Ministry; Political Adviser Mr. Özdemir Tokel, Chief of Staff to the Prime Minister Ms. İlgen Bağcıer; Ambassador Ufuk Turganer, Representative of the TRNC in Baku; and Mr. Görkem Reis, Third Secretary of the Representation of the TRNC in Baku.

On behalf of the TURKPA International Secretariat the meeting was also attended by Deputy Secretaries General Mr. Talgat Aduov and Mr. Muhammet Alper Hayali; Secretaries of Commissions Ms. Aynura Abutalibova, Mr. Bauyrzhan Datkayev, and Mr. Kadir Yaman; Chief of Protocol Mr. Yadigar Mammadov; Assistant to the Secretary General Ms. Takhmina Bakieva; and Public Relations Officer Ms. Fidan Majidli.

The meeting concluded with an exchange of commemorative gifts.
