TURKPA EOM met with Chairman of CEC of Azerbaijan

On 30 August 2024, TURKPA Election Observation Mission met with Chairman of the Central Election Commission (CEC) of the Republic of Azerbaijan Mazahir Panahov.
Chairman of the CEC welcomed the members of the Mission and informed on the preparations for the early parliamentary elections in Azerbaijan. He talked about the electoral system, election administration, candidate registration, measures to ensure the electoral rights of voters with disabilities and election observation.
Chairman of the CEC noted that 990 candidates participated in the early parliamentary elections. 305 of 990 candidates were nominated by 25 political parties. 6,343 polling stations functioned on permanent basis, while 135 polling stations were established on temporary basis. 54 polling stations were established in the liberated territories. Relevant polling stations were equipped with ramps and all polling stations were equipped with Braille stencils. Web-cameras were installed in 1,000 polling stations across the country to increase the transparency. Chairman of the CEC informed that nearly 600 international observers and some 112,000 domestic observers were registered for observation of the early parliamentary elections.
The TURKPA Mission noted the significance of the elections in terms of conducting voting in the liberated territories. The Mission wished success in the conduct of the upcoming elections.
The TURKPA Election Observation Mission is composed of the parliamentarians from Kazakhstan and Türkiye – Mukash Iskandirov (Kazakhstan), Ahmet Zenbilci, Emre Çalışkan, Mahmut Rıdvan Nazırlı, Kadim Durmaz and Filiz Kılıç (Türkiye), TURKPA Secretary General Mehmet Süreyya Er, parliamentary staff members and other representatives of the TURKPA Secretariat. The Mission is headed by member of the Grand National Assembly of Türkiye Ahmet Zenbilci.
