On 24 May 2024, Acting Deputy Secretary General Saky Sadykov attended the Lachin Climate Action Dialogue. The event that included the presentation ceremony of COP29, was organized by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Azerbaijan. State officials, parliamentarians, representatives of diplomatic corps and other guests took part in the events. Speaking at the presentation ceremony, Assistant to the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan - Head of the Department of the Presidential Administration for Foreign Policy Hikmet Hajiyev noted that Azerbaijan is determined to achieve its goals and intends to make every effort to achieve this. Hikmet Hajiyev said that through cooperation, universal support, investment and innovation, it will be possible to produce green energy anywhere. Stressing the importance of cooperation in the preparation for COP29, the Minister of Ecology and Natural Resources of Azerbaijan, President-designate of COP29 Mukhtar Babayev invited diplomats accredited in Azerbaijan to be active in the preparation for the conference, in particular in developing the event agenda. On May 24, within the framework of the Lachin Dialogue on Climate Action, the event participants visited the Zerti Agro-Industrial Park. Guests were provided with information about agricultural activities carried out in the Zerti Agro-Industrial Park. The participants also visited the Khochazfilm studio. It was informed that the promising areas of activity of the Khochazfilm studio include the implementation of projects related to the large-scale popularization of the Karabakh region, coverage of cultural events that will take place in the region, familiarization with the progress of restoration work in Lachin, promotion of national brands and local products, organization of cinematographic and art courses and competitions. The program was followed by the observing the process of releasing juvenile trout into the Hakari river of Lachin region, in order to contribute to the restoration of the ecosystem of Karabakh and Eastern Zangezur. Then the opening of the exhibition “This is how the carpet was created” took place, dedicated to 28 May, the Independence Day of Azerbaijan. The 29th session of the Conference of the Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change COP29 is planned to be held in Azerbaijan in November this year. The United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change is an agreement signed at the Earth Summit in Rio de Janeiro in June 1992 to prevent dangerous human interference with the climate system. COP29 (Conference of Parties) is the conference that is the highest legislative body monitoring the implementation of the Framework Convention on Climate Change. 198 countries are parties to the Convention.
