Meeting of TURKPA Council was held in Astana

The Meeting of the Council of Assembly within the framework of the Fourteenth Plenary Session of TURKPA hosted by the Parliament of the Republic of Kazakhstan was held on 12 June 2025 in Astana. Members of the Council – Chairperson of the Milli Majlis of the Republic of Azerbaijan Sahiba Gafarova, Chairman of the Mazhilis of the Parliament of the Republic of Kazakhstan Yerlan Koshanov, Chairman of the Jogorku Kenesh of the Kyrgyz Republic Nurlanbek Turgunbek uulu, Speaker of the Grand National Assembly of Türkiye Numan Kurtulmuş, as well as Secretary General of TURKPA Mehmet Süreyya Er took part at the meeting. The opening speech of Chairperson-in-Office of TURKPA, Chairperson of the Milli Majlis of the Republic of Azerbaijan Sahiba Gafarova, was followed by a handover ceremony of the TURKPA Chairmanship from the Milli Majlis of the Republic of Azerbaijan to the Parliament of the Republic of Kazakhstan. Heads of Parliament delivered speeches during the meeting. Chairman of the Mazhilis of the Parliament of the Republic of Kazakhstan Yerlan Koshanov took over the TURKPA Chairmanship and made a welcome speech in his capacity of the new Chairman-in-Office of TURKPA. The Council took decisions on the agenda items, which included, among others, approval of the draft final reports of the election observation missions of TURKPA, draft budget for 2026, draft Astana Declaration of the Fourteenth Plenary Session, adoption of the Plan of Activities for 2026, as well as approval of candidacies for the positions of the vice-chairs of the permanent commissions, Secretary General, Deputy Secretary General, and election of Secretaries of Commission. Aigerim Taalaibekova was elected as the Secretary of the Commission on Education, Culture, Social and Humanitarian Affairs of TURKPA and Kadir Yaman was re-elected as the Secretary of the Commission on Legal Affairs and International Relations of TURKPA.
