Baku hosted Third Meeting of Women Parliamentarians Group of TURKPA

The Third Meeting of Women Parliamentarians Group titled “Women - Backbone of the Economy, Driving Force of Entrepreneurship in TURKPA Member States” was held on 5 June 2024 in Baku within the framework of the Thirteenth Plenary Session of TURKPA. The meeting was chaired by the Head of Group, Member of the Grand National Assembly of Türkiye Zeynep Yıldız. The event brought together women parliamentarians of TURKPA member states, as well of the Republic of Uzbekistan and Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC). Malahat Ibrahimgizi, Member of the Milli Majlis of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Sadagat Valiyeva, Member of the Milli Majlis of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Cholpon Sultanbekova, Member of the Jogorku Kenesh of the Kyrgyz Republic, Gulnora Marufova, Member of the Senate of Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan, Umidakhon Zakirova, Member of the Legislative Chamber of Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan, İzlem Gürçağ Altuğra, Member of the Assembly of TRNC addressed the meeting. Touching upon the significant role of women in Turkic world, the participants highlighted their critical contribution to the national economies and social advancement. They noted positive growth of women entrepreneurs and increasing active participation of women in workforce for inclusive and sustainable development. The women parliamentarians exchanged views and shared good practices on the important measures taken to ensure equal opportunities for women and increase women empowerment in all spheres, particularly in business in Turkic states. It was also stressed the necessity of further development of relevant regulatory framework for supporting and creating more favorable opportunities for women entrepreneurial activities. The role of TURKPA as the interparliamentary platform for discussion of issues of common interest and concern was underlined during the meeting as well. The Group adopted its relevant Report and Recommendations and determined the topic of its Fourth Meeting to be held in the Republic of Kazakhstan within the framework of the Fourteenth Plenary Session of TURKPA.
