On the 36th anniversary of the January 20 tragedy, we solemnly honor the memory of the innocent victims who lost their lives during one of the most painful chapters in the history of Azerbaijan.
For decades, Azerbaijan has endured immense suffering, profound losses, and countless hardships. Yet, despite these tragedies, the Azerbaijani people have never lost their dignity, resilience, or unwavering spirit.
The January 20, 1990, stands as a symbol of both tragedy and courage, a reminder of the heavy price paid for freedom, sovereignty, and national identity.
The historic victory of the Patriotic War, achieved under the leadership of President and Victorious Supreme Commander-in-Chief Ilham Aliyev, engraved an important turning point in national history and has become an enduring part of the shared memory of the Turkic world, reflecting the unity of the people, their political will, and unwavering devotion to statehood. This achievement allowed the long-troubled souls of the January 20 martyrs to finally rest in peace.
May the memory of the martyrs live on forever, and may their souls rest in peace!
Ambassador Ramil Hasan
Secretary General of the Parliamentary Assembly of Turkic States
