TURKPA took part in the Roundtable on Cultural heritage and biodiversity conservation in the Turkic Civilization

On September 10, 2026, Mr. Bauyrzhan Datkayev, Secretary of the TURKPA Commission on Economic Cooperation, participated in the Round table on “Cultural heritage and biodiversity conservation in the Turkic Civilization: from shared traditions to joint action”, organized by the Turkic Culture and Heritage Foundation within framework of the Climate Week 4 (CW4) of United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC), held in Baku, Azerbaijan.

The Round table, moderated by Prof. Aktoty Raimkulova, President of the Turkic Culture and Heritage Foundation, brought together MPs of Milli Majlis and high-ranking officials of the Republic of Azerbaijan, the representatives and experts from different Turkic States, as well as international organizations, to discuss ways to mitigate the negative effects of climate change, safeguard cultural heritage in a changing World, and promote the conservation of biodiversity through stronger cooperation and joint action. 

Following the opening remarks by Mr. Mukhtar Babayev, Representative of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan for Climate issues, speeches were delivered by Ms. Nigar Arpadarai, Member of the Milli Majlis of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Ms. Hicran Huseynova, Chairperson of the Committee on Family, Women and Children Affairs of the Milli Majlis of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Mr. Saken Kalkamanov, Chairman of the Board of the NJSC «International Green Technologies and Investment Projects Center» (Kazakhstan), Dr. Hakan Oniz, Head of the Department of Restoration and Conservation of Cultural Heritage of Akdeniz University (Türkiye), Cultural Heritage Director of the World Underwater Confederation Scientific Committee, Ms. Sabina Haciyeva, Head of the State Service for Protection, Development and Restoration of Cultural Heritage under the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Ms. Aytac Alisultanli, Member of the Board of “İcherisheher” State Historical-Architectural Reserve (Azerbaijan), Dr. Fariz Ismayilzade, Member of the Milli Majlis of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Vice Rector of the ADA University, Dr. Ceyda Öztosun, Head of the Mediterranean Coast Underwater Archaeology Project (Türkiye), and Mr. Kambar Omarov, Member (Independent Director) of the Board of Directors of “ZHASYL DAMU” JSC (Kazakhstan).  

The experts shared their national experiences, perspectives and approaches to addressing the challenges posed by climate change, fostering an exchange of knowledge and best practices. 

The event also focused on the impact of global climate change and related environmental processes on cultural heritage, including the rich cultural heritage of the Turkic peoples.
