TURKPA International Election Observation Mission meets with Chairman of the CEC of Kazakhstan

Following the invitation from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Kazakhstan, the International Election Observation Mission of the Parliamentary Assembly of Turkic States (TURKPA), headed by Mr. Osman Mesten, Chairman of the TURKPA Commission on Legal Affairs and International Relations and Member of the Grand National Assembly of Türkiye, commenced its observation activities within the framework of its election observation programme in Astana and Almaty ahead of the parliamentary elections to be held in the Republic of Kazakhstan on 23 August 2026.
The Mission is composed a total of 20 members- representatives from the parliaments of Azerbaijan, Kyrgyzstan and Türkiye, parliamentary staff, and representatives of the TURKPA International Secretariat, as well as a representative of an NGO.
On 20 August 2026, the TURKPA International Election Observation Mission met with Mr. Nurlan Abdirov, Chairman of the Central Election Commission (CEC) of the Republic of Kazakhstan. During the meeting, Mr. Nurlan Abdirov provided the delegation with detailed information on preparations for the elections, the ongoing work of the Central Election Commission, and the arrangements related to the election observation process. He also briefed the Mission on the measures being undertaken to ensure the proper organization and conduct of the elections.
Mr. Abdirov noted TURKPA’s active participation in international election observation processes and expressed his appreciation for the contribution made by TURKPA to election observation and the promotion of parliamentary cooperation.
The Head of Mission Mr. Mesten expressed his sincere appreciation to Mr. Abdirov and the Central Election Commission for their warm hospitality, constructive exchange of views, and support provided to the Mission.
According to information shared by the Central Election Commission with the TURKPA delegation, a total of 777 international observers from 42 countries are participating in the election observation process. In addition to TURKPA, representatives of a total of 13 international organizations are taking part in observing the elections.
