Deputy Secretary General of TURKPA Fuad Alakbarov took part at the 57th Plenary Session of the Interparliamentary Assembly of Member Nations of the Commonwealth of Independent States (IPA CIS) held on 22 November 2024 in Saint Petersburg.
The Plenary Session was attended by parliamentary delegations from the IPA CIS member states, high-ranking officials and representatives of various international organizations.
The main topic of the Plenary Session was "The Role of the Institution of International Election Observation in the Development of Democracy and the Protection of State Sovereignty of the Member States of the Commonwealth of Independent States”. The Session highlighted the IPA CIS's efforts to enhance collaboration in areas such as democracy, environmental protection, and social policies.
The Session chaired by the Chairperson of the IPA CIS Council, Speaker of the Federation Council of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation Valentina Matvienko, was also addressed by the Speaker of the Milli Majlis of the Republic of Azerbaijan Sahiba Gafarova, the Chairman of the Senate of the Parliament of the Republic of Kazakhstan Maulen Ashimbayev, the Chairman of the Jogorku Kenesh of the Kyrgyz Republic Nurlanbek Shakiev, the Chairperson of the Senate of the Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan Tanzila Narbaeva, the Speaker of the Majlisi Milli of the Majlisi Oli of the Republic of Tajikistan Rustami Emomali and the Chair of the Permanent Commission on International Affairs and National Security of the Council of the Republic of the National Assembly of the Republic of Belarus Sergei Aleinik.
The Session’s agenda covered discussions on supporting democratic processes, election observation, protecting citizens' rights in the digital environment, environmental policies, labor protection, and cross-border cooperation. Key reports were presented on topics such as electronic voting, sustainability, and model laws.
On the margins of the Session, the IPA CIS Awards, including the prestigious Chingiz Aitmatov Award, were presented to distinguished individuals in their respective fields.
