On 23 October 2025, in Ankara, Speaker of the Grand National Assembly of Türkiye, H. E. Mr. Numan Kurtulmuş received the delegation led by the Secretary General Ambassador Ramil Hasan.
Mr. Kurtulmuş conveyed his congratulations to Mr. Hasan on the commencement of his tenure as Secretary General of TURKPA and wished him successful and productive work ahead.
During the meeting, discussions focused on the future activities of TURKPA, such as the strengthening of cooperation with the Ministries of Foreign Affairs of Turkic states, the implementation of a new mechanism of cooperation with the Organization of Turkic States (OTS), the enhanced coordination of national parliamentary delegations across various international parliamentary organizations under the framework of the Assembly, aimed at protecting shared national interests and strengthening cooperation among Turkic states. Mr. Kurtulmuş suggested that it would be expedient to hold meetings of the Committees on Defense, Security, and Military Affairs together with the other committee meetings.
Among the key topics highlighted during the discussions between the esteemed Speaker of Parliament and the Secretary General were the possible organization of meetings of the heads of delegations from member parliaments within the framework of the OSCE PA meetings and the organization of annual informal meetings of the Speakers. The first such meeting is planned to take place in April 2026, within the framework of the 152nd Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) to be held in İstanbul.
Other important ideas included the possibility of bringing together committee chairpersons and friendship groups under the leadership of the current TURKPA Chairmanship.
The parties also discussed the renewal of the Secretariat’s legal documents and the adoption of a new budget that meets modern requirements at the next plenary session. H.E. Mr. Numan Kurtulmuş fully supported the mentioned initiatives.
At the same time, the decision to hold short-term internship programs, which was agreed during the bilateral meeting of the Secretaries General of TURKPA and Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) to further improve common activities, was also welcomed, and it was considered appropriate to benefit from the experience of the Secretariats of other international organizations, such as the OSCE and the OSCE PA, in the future.
Secretary General was accompanied by his Deputies, Talgat Aduov and Muhammet Alper Hayali.
