On 30-31 January 2023, TURKPA delegation participated in the Third Counter-Terrorism Coordination Meeting of Parliamentary Assemblies and Parliamentary Policy Dialogue on Border Security co-organized by the United Nations Office of Counter-Terrorism (UNOCT), the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly and Shura of State of Qatar in Doha. The event brought together representatives of 16 international parliamentary assemblies to facilitate a joint review of existing counter-terrorism trends and efforts.
In the opening speeches delivered by Mr. Hassan bin Addulla Al-Ghanim, Speaker of the Shura Council of the State of Qatar, Mr. Mauro Miedico, Deputy Director of United Nations Office of Counter-Terrorism, and Mr. Reinhold Lopatka, Vice-President and Chair of the Ad Hoc Committee on Countering Terrorism in OSCE Parliamentary Assembly, the fight against terrorism was called as a common agenda. It was noted that success can be achieved when all parties will act together on the base of collaboration and in this context, the significance of parliamentary assemblies was expressed in many ways.
Representatives of various regional and global parliamentary assemblies such as Inter-Parliamentary Union, Arab Parliament, African Parliamentary Union, Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe, Latin American and Caribbean Parliament, Parliamentary Assembly of the Mediterranean and the Parliamentary Assembly of the Black Sea Economic Cooperation, along with TURKPA, discussed priority areas, possibility of better comprehension of the international legal framework and possible future joint initiatives.
Taking the floor at the meeting, the TURKPA delegation briefed the participants on the mission and objectives of the Assembly, and the work carried out on the matter within its framework.
Deputy Secretary General Fuad Alakbarov and Secretary of Commission Kadir Yaman held bilateral meetings on the sidelines of the two-day event.
