On 17 February 2026, the Deputy Secretary General of the Parliamentary Assembly of Turkic States (TURKPA), Saky Sadykov, participated in a roundtable discussion entitled “The Caspian Emergency: Causes, Consequences, and Solutions” jointly organized by the Embassy of the Republic of Kazakhstan to the Republic of Azerbaijan, and ADA University in Baku.
The roundtable, moderated by Dr. Fariz Ismailzade, Director of the Institute for Development and Diplomacy (IDD) and Vice-Rector of ADA University, was attended by H.E. Alim Bayel, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Kazakhstan to the Republic of Azerbaijan, as well as distinguished experts and senior officials of Azerbaijan and Kazakhstan.
The dialogue focused on the urgent challenges confronting the Caspian region, their far-reaching implications, and prospective avenues for joint action, with particular emphasis on environmental degradation and the continued decline in the water level of the Caspian Sea.
Participants comprehensively examined environmental concerns, including water pollution, depletion of biological resources, and fluctuations in sea levels; economic and resource-related matters, such as the sustainability of fisheries and the coordinated management of energy resources; as well as legal and geopolitical dimensions pertaining to cooperation among the littoral states. Particular attention was given to the need for coordinated action by the Caspian littoral countries and relevant international organizations to effectively and sustainably address these challenges.
