On 19 January 2025, Secretary General Mehmet Süreyya Er visited the Alley of Martyrs in Baku to honor the memory of the heroic martyrs who sacrificed their lives for independence and sovereignty of Azerbaijan.
The Secretary General laid flowers to the graves of 20 January martyrs.
The tragic events of 20 January 1990, known as Black January, when innocent civilians, including women, children and the elderly were brutally killed in Baku and nearby regions by order of the USSR leadership, marked a turning point in the nation’s struggle for independence. The Alley of Martyrs stands as an eternal symbol of the resilience and indomitable spirit of the Azerbaijani people in their pursuit of freedom and national sovereignty.
