Baku hosted international conference “Increasing national and global efforts to clarify the fate of missing persons”

On 18 September 2023, Secretary General Mehmet Süreyya Er took part in the international conference entitled “Increasing national and global efforts to clarify the fate of missing persons” held in Baku.

The conference was organized by the State Commission on Prisoners of War, Hostages and Missing Persons on the occasion of the International Day of Victims of Enforced Disappearances.

The event brought together state officials of Azerbaijan, former heads of state and government, representatives of international organizations, and experts, as well as other foreign guests.

At the opening session, an address by President Ilham Aliyev to the conference participants was read out. In his speech, President Ilham Aliyev noted the issue of missing persons as one of the most topical problems facing Azerbaijan and expressed his assurance that the conference will contribute to the attraction of attention of the international community to the painful issue of clarifying the fate of missing persons.

The conference agenda featured a short film on the missing persons in the world, panel discussions and speeches by the guests.
