TURKPA brought together Chingiz Aitmatov’s friends in his 95th anniversary

On 25 December 2023, the Reunion of the prominent Kyrgyz writer Chingiz Aitmatov’s friends was organized by TURKPA on the occasion of his 95th anniversary in Baku.

Well-known figures from the Turkic World who were friends and personally acquainted with Chingiz Aitmatov during his lifetime, parliamentarians, representatives of embassies of Turkic states in Baku attended the event.

Secretary General of TURKPA Mehmet Süreyya Er opened the event. In his opening remarks, Secretary General welcomed the participants and noted that it was an honor, once again, to pay respect to the blessed memory of Chingiz Aitmatov together with such an esteemed audience. He expressed that Chingiz Aitmatov was a conqueror of hearts of millions of readers all over the world with his pen and genius.

“Chingiz Aitmatov is such a writer that even after centuries, the inextinguishable flame of his creativity will warm the hearts of his readers and literature enthusiasts. The fact that his works have been translated into more than 170 languages, and that all his works have been made into films, demonstrates the scale of the great writer's genius as a visual proof of my words,” Secretary General said.

“It is no coincidence that the name of Chingiz Aitmatov is mentioned along with the most well-known writers of the world. He is one of the most widely read writers in the world with his works published in millions of copies,” he added.

Secretary General Mehmet Süreyya Er mentioned Chingiz Aitmatov as a worthy son and a bright embodiment of the inexhaustible cultural and creative potential of Turkic peoples. In this context, he underlined that preservation and transmission of such values as Aitmatov was the sacred duty of every generation in the Turkic World to the next generations, and promotion of such values further strengthened the “soft power” of the Turkic World and aroused more interest in the Turkic World.

The event was moderated by the MP from Azerbaijan and member of the TURKPA Commission on Education, Culture, Social and Humanitarian Affairs Prof. Dr. Hikmat Mammadov. President of the International Turkic Culture and Heritage Foundation Dr. Aktoty Raimkulova; Ambassador of the Kyrgyz Republic to the Republic of Azerbaijan Kairat Osmonaliev; Azerbaijani writer, dramatist, film director Anar Rzayev; Azerbaijani politician, diplomat, writer Prof. Dr. Hasan Hasanov; Kazakh poet, writer, diplomat Mukhtar Shakhanov; Uzbek journalist, writer, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Ahmadjon Meliboyev from the National University of Uzbekistan; the MP from Azerbaijan Prof. Dr. Isa Habibbeyli; Kyrgyz writer, journalist Esenbay Nurushev; Tatar poet, writer, historian Dr. Fauziya Bayramova; Azerbaijani poet, journalist Adil Jamil; Kyrgyz poet, writer Abdrakhman Alymbayev; the MP from Azerbaijan and Vice-Chairman of the TURKPA Commission on Education, Culture, Social and Humanitarian Affairs Prof. Dr. Nizami Jafarov; owner of the Manas Publishing House Muhammet Şener Bulut; Prof. Dr. Orhan Söylemez from the Kastamonu University; and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Mehman Hasanli from the Nizami Ganjavi Literature Institute delivered speeches during the event.

The speakers told about the life and creativity, literary heritage of Chingiz Aitmatov and his contributions to the Turkic and world literature. Chingiz Aitmatov’s friends shared their warm memories of their acquaintance and moments spent with the great writer. A video on the visit of Chingiz Aitmatov to the city of Elazığ of Türkiye was demonstrated by Muhammet Şener Bulut.

The event concluded with the demonstration of scenes from the play based on the writer’s story “Mother’s Field” by the actors of the Baku Municipal Theater. The production director is People's Artist of Azerbaijan Merahim Farzalibayov.

Within the framework of the event, a photo exhibition dedicated to the life and creativity of Chingiz Aitmatov was organized by TURKPA. The participants also became acquainted with the works of Chingiz Aitmatov translated into Azerbaijani language.
