Astana hosted Tenth OTS Summit

On 3 November 2023, Secretary General Mehmet Süreyya Er participated at the Tenth Summit of the Organization of Turkic States held in Astana, Kazakhstan.

The Summit hosted by the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev was attended by the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev, President of the Kyrgyz Republic Sadyr Japarov, President of the Republic of Türkiye Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev, Chairman of People’s Council of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov and Prime Minister of Hungary Viktor Orbán. The members of the Council of Elders of the OTS and the heads of Turkic cooperation organizations also took part in the event.

During the Summit, the Chairmanship of the Organization was handed over from Uzbekistan to Kazakhstan. Heads of State underscored their unwavering commitment to deepening cooperation within the Turkic World and enhancing solidarity among Turkic States.

The Summit adopted the Astana Act and proclaimed February 6 as the "Day of Remembrance and Solidarity with the Disaster Victims of the Turkic World". The Economic Cooperation Organization was granted observer status in the OTS. President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev was awarded the "Supreme Order of the Turkic World". Heads of State signed the Tenth Summit Declaration. It was decided to hold the next Summit in the Kyrgyz Republic in 2024.

The Summit was preceded by the Meeting of Council of Ministers of Foreign Affairs, during which various issues on the Organization’s agenda were discussed. Secretary General Mehmet Süreyya Er also took part and delivered a speech at the meeting.
