Chairman of the Majilis of the Parliament of the Republic of Kazakhstan, TurkPA Chairman-in-Office Nurlan Nigmatulin, while speaking at the 137th Inter-Parliamentary Union Assembly, urged the world parliamentary community to support counter-terrorist initiatives of the President of Kazakhstan.
The 137th Inter-Parliamentary Union Assembly was held in Saint-Petersburg on 14-15 October, where parliamentarians from more than 160 countries of the world came together to unite their efforts to advance peaceful dialogue.
Today from this tribune we urge the parliamentarian colleagues from the member-states of the Inter-Parliamentary Union to support the initiative of the President of Kazakhstan on drafting and adopting within the framework of the United Nations the Code of Conduct on achieving the world free of terrorism. I am confident that this will become a substantial contribution of the global parliamentary community to the fight against one of the acute threats of the XXI century, - underlined N.Nigmatulin.
Speaker of the Majilis also spoke about the unique model of interethnic and interreligious dialogue, which was formed and being developed by Kazakhstan. Among its main principles, as pointed by N.Nigmatulin, is constitutional and legal provision of equal opportunities all of the citizens of Kazakhstan in the realization of their ethnic and religious needs. The state policy aims at developing the cultures and languages of all the ethnic groups in the country, efficient institutions of interethnic accord have been formed and interreligious dialogue is ongoing.
While describing the Assembly of the people of Kazakhstan as a unique institution in harmonising the interethnic relations, Chairman of the Majilis noted high assessments of the Assembly’s activities on the part of the UN, UNESCO and OSCE.
The Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) is the oldest international parliamentary organisation, which was set up in 1889. Nowadays the IPU brings together the parliamentarians from 173 countries and 11 inter-parliamentary organisations. During the entire period of its history the IPU has facilitated the growth of parliamentary systems, upholding the human rights, establishment of interethnic accord as well as preservation of the international security. One of the main events of the 137th IPU Assembly was adoption of a resolution titled “Sharing our diversity: The 20th anniversary of the Universal Declaration on Democracy”
