In the framework of his working visit to Astana on 18-20 July 2018, Secretary General Altynbek Mamaiusupov held meeting with Minister of Foreign Affairs of Kazakhstan Mr. Kairat Abdrakhmanov.
Secretary General briefed Minister on the current activities of TURKPA, including those related to its 10th anniversary along with preparations for the Eighth Plenary Session that will take place in autumn 2018. Mr. Mamaiusupov informed that Secretariat is actively deliberating over the harmonization of the member countries` national legislation, in order to facilitate further integration of Turkic-speaking countries. Mr. Mamaiusupov added that Kazakhstan is one of the main initiators of the rapprochement of fraternal nations and, in this context, support of Kazakhstan is a key aspect in this process.
Mr. Abdrakhmanov, in his turn, emphasized that President of Kazakhstan Nursultan Nazarbayev places particular importance to Turkic cooperation entering its new phase of development and TURKPA had become the linchpin of Turkic integration as an institution of parliamentary diplomacy of the Turkic speaking countries. Kazakhstani Foreign Minister also said that development of TURKPA’s cooperation with leading international organisations, such as UN, OSCE and Council of Europe Parliamentary Assemblies, is essential aspect in terms of increasing visibility of Turkic cooperation at the international arena.
During the meeting, both parties also exchanged views on future prospects of Turkic cooperation and touched upon matters put on the agenda of the forthcoming Sixth Summit of the Turkic Council’s Heads of State scheduled to be held in October 2018.
