On 8-9 October 2018, the Third Meeting of Speakers of Eurasian Countries' Parliaments hosted by the Grand National Assembly of Turkey (GNAT) was held in Antalya bringing together parliamentary delegations from 39 countries and representatives of international organizations. The main topic of the event was “Economic Cooperation, Environment and Sustainable Development in Eurasia”.
In his opening speech, Speaker of Turkish Parliament Mr. Binali Yıldırım stressed the importance of cooperation of Eurasian parliaments in tackling global challenges such as environmental pollution, climate change, war, poverty, terrorism, natural disasters and food security. He also urged to exert collective efforts in order to encounter terrorism and called on to boost cooperation to solve conflicts in the region.
The meeting continued with speeches by the heads of participating delegations.
Participants of the meeting adopted a final communique by consensus. According to the document, the next Meeting of Speakers of Eurasian Countries’ Parliaments will be held in Kazakhstan in 2019.
The heads of the TURKPA member parliaments of Azerbaijan Mr. Ogtay Asadov, Kazakhstan Nurlan Nigmatulin and Kyrgyzstan Mr. Dastanbek Jumabekov, as well as TURKPA Secretary General Altynbek Mamaiusupov attended the meeting. Mentioning that TURKPA celebrates its 10th anniversary in 2018, Secretary General gave information on current and future activities of the Assembly.
