On 27-28 May 2021, TURKPA delegation led by Mr. Recep Şeker, Vice-Chairman of the TURKPA Commission on Environment and Natural Resources and member of the Grand National Assembly of Turkey, participated at the 9the Nevsky International Ecological Congress held in Saint Petersburg.
The Congress was co-organized by the Interparliamentary Assembly of the CIS Member Nations, the Federation Council of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation and the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment of the Russian Federation under the theme “Ecology of the Planet: Sustainable Development”. Parliamentarians, ministers, representatives of international organizations, governmental bodies, various institutions, business and academic communities, experts attended the Congress.
The two-day event featured roundtables and a plenary session that was focused on the various issues of the global ecological agenda including development of national projects, protecting natural resources and biodiversity, climate policy, green energy, eco-awareness, and the sustainable development of waterbodies.
Head of the TURKPA delegation Mr. Şeker delivered a speech at the roundtable on “Environmental Safety. Today’s Challenges and Solutions”. In his speech, Mr. Şeker assessed the environmental issues as a key part of the global agenda. He informed on the active work being carried out within the framework of the TURKPA Commission on Environment and Natural Resources aimed at fostering environmental safety and management. Stressing the need for collective efforts in addressing environmental challenges, Mr. Şeker expressed readiness of the Commission for cooperation with other international organizations in this context.
On 28 May, TURKPA delegation took part at the Plenary Session of the Congress. Speaker of the Federation Council of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation Mrs. Valentina Matviyenko opened the Session that continued with the speeches by heads of parliaments, ministers of the member countries.
