Symposium titled “Past, Present and Future of the Turkic World” was co-organized by TURKPA, Milli Majlis of the Republic of Azerbaijan and Atatürk Center in Azerbaijan, on 9 June 2021 in Baku.
The symposium held in a hybrid format (both in-person and online participation) was dedicated to the 30th anniversary of independence of Turkic-Speaking states, the Great Victory of Azerbaijan in the Second Karabakh War and 100th anniversary of the Grand National Assembly of Turkey. The event was attended by the parliamentarians from the member countries, heads of Turkic cooperation organisations, ambassadors and representatives of leading universities of the member countries.
TURKPA Chairperson-in-Office and Chairperson of Milli Majlis of the Republic of Azerbaijan Mrs. Sahiba Gafarova and Speaker of the Grand National Assembly of Turkey (GNAT) Mr. Mustafa Şentop addressed the symposium through a video message.
Director of the Atatürk Center in Azerbaijan and member of Milli Majlis Mr. Nizami Jafarov, TURKPA Secretary General Altynbek Mamaiusupov, TURKSOY Secretary General Mr. Dusen Kaseinov, President of the International Turkic Academy Mr. Darkhan Kydyrali, President of the Turkic Culture and Heritage Foundation Mrs. Gunai Afandiyeva, Chairman of the TURKPA Commission on Legal Affairs and International Relations and member of the GNAT Mr. İsmet Uçma delivered speeches at the opening session.
The participants exchanged views on achievements and progress in the Turkic-speaking countries in the last 30 years and role of the parliaments in this context, importance of the Great Victory of Azerbaijan in the Second Karabakh War for the Turkic World, as well as prospects of future cooperation within the framework of the Turkic cooperation organisations, at the panel sessions following the opening ceremony.
