38th Meeting of TURKSOY Permanent Council was held in Khiva

On 16 September 2021, Secretary General Altynbek Mamaiusupov delivered a speech at the 38th Meeting of the TURKSOY Permanent Council held in Khiva, Uzbekistan.

The meeting was preceded by an opening ceremony of “Khiva - Cultural Capital of Turkic World 2020”. Ministers of Culture of member countries, representatives of international organizations and national academic circles attended the event.

In his speech, Secretary General stressed the importance of conducting in-depth research, passing on to next generation and promotion of Turkic cultural heritage and, in this context, he touched on the “Cultural Capital of the Turkic World” project being carried out by TURKSOY since 2012. He mentioned the role of TURKSOY in increasing the visibility of the Turkic world, particularly by organizing events in other regions such as Balkans and African countries. Noting the close coordination between the two organizations, Mr. Mamaiusupov informed on the TURKPA activities aimed at the development of cultural cooperation among the member countries.

The Permanent Council took a number of crucial decisions. Bursa (Turkey) was was named as 2022 cultural capital of the Turkic world. 2022 was proclaimed as the year of Azerbaijani composer Fikrat Amirov and Kyrgyz artist Toktobolot Abdumomunov in honour of their 100th anniversary, as well as year of commemoration of Turkish scholar and poet Süleyman Çelebi on the occasion of the 600th anniversary of his death.
