TURKPA delegation led by Secretary General Mr. Mehmet Sureyya Er attended the 143rd Assembly of the IPU and related meetings which took place in Madrid, from 26 to 30 November 2021, hosted by the Parliament of Spain.
Hundreds of IPU members from all over the world met in person in the world’s largest gathering of parliamentarians. The main focus of the Assembly was Contemporary challenges to democracy: Overcoming division and building community.
The Assembly was attended by the delegations of Azerbaijan, Turkey and Kazakstan from TURKPA member countries led by the Chair of the Milli Majlis of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ms. Sahiba Gafarova, Speaker of the Grand National Assembly of Turkey Mr. Mustafa Şentop and Secretary of the Committee on International Affairs, Defence and Security of the Mazhilis of the Parliament of the Republic of Kazakhstan Mr. Mukhtar Yerman. Chair of the Milli Majlis of the Republic of Azerbaijan and Speaker of the Grand National Assembly of Turkey made a speech at the Assembly.
During the Assembly, besides IPU bodies and other related meetings, the IPU and Spanish Parliament facilitated dozens of bilateral meetings. At the same time, delegates considered resolution on legislation worldwide to combat online child sexual exploitation and abuse. IPU members also adopted a new strategy for the IPU for 2022-2026.
TURKPA participates in IPU activities as an observer since 2010.
