TURKPA delegation led by Secretary General Mehmet Süreyya Er took part at the 144th Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) hosted by the Parliament of the Republic of Indonesia on 20-24 March 2022 in Nusa Dua, Bali. The main theme of the event was "Getting to Zero: Mobilizing Parliaments to Act on Climate Change".
Inaugural ceremony of the Assembly was addressed by the President of the Republic of Indonesia H.E. Joko Widodo, the Speaker of the House of Representatives of the Republic of Indonesia H.E. Puan Maharani and the President of the IPU H.E. Duarte Pacheco. UN Secretary General H.E. Antonio Guterres addressed the Assembly through a video message.
Meetings of the IPU statutory bodies, including the Governing Council, Standing Committees, Committees on the Human Rights of Parliamentarians and on Middle East Questions, as well as the Forum of Women Parliamentarians and the Forum of Young Parliamentarians convened during the Assembly. ASGP meeting also took place in the framework of the event.
The IPU Assembly brought together parliamentarians from various regions of the world and representatives of international organizations. The delegates debated, exhanged ideas and shared views on finding innovative solutions, parliamentary action and mobilizing policies to address the climate change and its implications.
On the sidelines of the event, Secretary General met with the parliamentary delegations of TURKPA member states in IPU. The parties exchanged views on the prospects of inter-parliamentary cooperation in the Turkic World and other issues of common interest.
The Assembly concluded with the adoption of an outcome document on the overall theme of the General Debate.
