On 17 May 2022, TURKPA delegation headed by Secretary General Mr. Mehmet Süreyya Er took part at the Third General Conference of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Economic Cooperation Organization (PAECO) under the theme “Cooperation in Post-Pandemic Period: Challenges and Opportunities for Recovery” hosted by the Milli Majlis of the Republic of Azerbaijan. Parliamentary delegations led by Heads and Deputy Heads of the TURKPA Member Parliaments participated at the event.
Chairperson of the Milli Majlis Mrs. Sahiba Gafarova delivered a welcoming speech at the Conference. Mrs. Gafarova informed that the PAECO Chairmanship was handed over from the National Assembly of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan to the Milli Majlis of the Republic of Azerbaijan.
Heads of delegations attending the Conference – Mr. Raja Pervaiz Ashraf, Speaker of the National Assembly of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan, Mr. Mahmadtohir Zokirzoda, Chairman of the House of Representatives of Majlisi Oli of the Republic of Tajikistan, Mr. Mustafa Şentop, Speaker of the Grand National Assembly of Türkiye, Mr. Nurdinzhon Ismoilov, Speaker of the Legislative Chamber of the Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan, Mr. Ali Nikzad, Deputy Speaker of the Islamic Parliament of Iran, Mrs. Balaim Kesebayeva, Deputy Chairperson of the Mazhilis of the Parliament of the Republic of Kazakhstan and Mr. Ulan Primov, Deputy Chairman of the Jogorku Kenesh of the Kyrgyz Republic, made speeches during the Conference. The heads of delegations stressed the necessity to enhance mutually beneficial cooperation among the member states in the fields of economy, trade, transport, tourism, and the role of parliaments in this context. They noted the significance of the Conference in fostering socio-economic development in the region, as well as strengthening bilateral and multilateral relations of the parliamentary delegations.
The event was concluded with the signing of the Baku Declaration.
