On 8 June 2022, Secretary General took part in the High-Level Conference on Parliamentary Support to Victims of Terrorism organized by the United Nations Office of Counter-Terrorism (UNOCT) in Rome, Italy.
During the conference parliamentarians, representatives of UN bodies, leading experts, victims of terrorist attacks and victims’ associations discussed the recent UN model legislative provisions to support and protect the rights and needs of victims of terrorism.
At the closing session, Mr. Kamil Aydin, Vice-Chair of the Ad Hoc Committee on Countering Terrorism, of the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe and Member of the Grand National Assembly of Türkiye also delivered a speech putting an emphasis that all kinds of terrorism regardless of their motivation and manifestation in all forms should be condemned as threats to international peace and security and criticised. There should not be double standard in combatting global terrorism.
On 10 June 2022, Secretary General also took part in the Second Counter-Terrorism Coordination Meeting of Parliamentary Assemblies in Naples, Italy organized by UNOCT Programme Office on Parliamentary Engagement in Preventing and Countering Terrorism, with the support of the Shura Council of the State of Qatar, and in partnership with the Parliamentary Assembly of the Mediterranean (PAM).
The participants reviewed the preliminary results of the activities implemented and launched by UNOCT in cooperation with the parliamentary assemblies in 2021 and 2022, as well as counter- terrorism and prevention of violent extremism (CT&PVE) initiatives that parliamentary assemblies implement in their regions.
