TURKPA participated in the 130th IPU Assembly

TURKPA delegation participated in the 130th Assembly and related meetings of the Inter-Parliamentary Union took place on 16-20 March 2014 in Geneva, Switzerland. The delegation was represented by Deputy Secretary General Fuad Alakbarov and Secretary of the Commission on International Relations Emin Hasanov.

The Assembly was attended by the delegations of Kazakhstan and Turkey led by the Chairman of Majilis of the Kazakh Parliament Mr. Nurlan Nigmatulin and Speaker of the Grand National Assembly of Turkey Mr. Cemil Çiçek. On the Assembly’s first day, on 17 March, both heads of delegations delivered speeches during general debate.

In his speech Mr. Nurlan Nigmatulin gave information about Kazakhstan’s activities on human rights, security, humanitarian issues and other different areas. Mr. Cemil Çiçek informed participants about democratic reforms carried out by Turkey, including promotion of the rule of law, human rights, protection of minorities’ rights etc.

On the same day, TURKPA delegation had informal meetings with the Speaker of the Grand National Assembly of Turkey Mr. Cemil Çiçek and wıth the PUIC Secretary General Mr. Mahmud Erol Kılıç.

TURKPA was granted an observer status in the IPU in 2010.
