TURKPA Secretary General attended OSCE PA Annual Session in Baku

TURKPA Secretary General Mr. Jandos Asanov attended the 23rd Annual Session of the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly, which was held from 28 June to 2 July 2014 in Baku. The Session was hosted by the Milli Mejlis of Azerbaijan and being held under the theme "Helsinki +40: Towards Human Security for All."

President of Azerbaijan H.E. Ilham Aliyev, President of the Swiss Federation and OSCE Chairperson-in-Office H.E. Didier Burkhalter, Chair of the Russian State Duma Mr. Sergey Naryshkin and Deputy Chair of the Ukrainian Verkhovna Rada Mr. Ruslan Koshulynsky attended the opening-day plenary session on 28 June.

On 2 July 2014, the OSCE parliamentarians adopted Baku Declaration and elected new President. Mr. Ilkka Kanerva, the former Foreign Minister of Finland and former Chairman-in-Office of the OSCE, was elected President of the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly. During the session, Mr. J. Asanov met the President of the OSCEPA Ranko Krivokapic, Secretary General of the OSCE PA Spencer Oliver and other OSCE dignitaries.

On 30 June 2014, representatives of the delegations of Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan and Turkey held informal meeting on the sidelines of the session and discussed certain issues of the session’s agenda.

TURKPA participates as a guest in the winter meetings and annual sessions of the OSCE PA since 2011 and during that period TURKPA Secretariat initiated a process of strengthening interaction among Turkic-speaking countries within the OSCE PA.In this framework, delegations of four countries held joint informal meetings and consultations during the OSCEPA Winter Meetings in Vienna and Annual Session held in 2013 in Istanbul.
