Parliamentary Assembly of Turkic States (TURKPA) plans to hold a commemoration programme on the occasion of the 75th anniversary of the passing to eternity of Nuri Paşa, the “Liberator of Baku”, the Commander of the Caucasian Islamic Army.

Turkic history has raised many heroes who achieved great success at crucial moments of history. Nuri Killigil Paşa is one of these distinguished personalities. Nuri Paşa, who became the Commander of the Caucasian Islamic Army upon the instruction of the Minister of War Enver Paşa, liberated various territories of Azerbaijan and in particular Baku on 15 September 1918 from enemy occupation in response to a plea from Azerbaijan and Dagestan for help from the Ottoman Empire and as a natural consequence, gained an exceptional place in the hearts of all Azerbaijanis. The honorable memory of Nuri Paşa, who was among the pioneers of the Turkish defense industry with the factories that he established in İstanbul after the proclamation of the Republic of Türkiye, is kept alive both in Azerbaijan and in Türkiye.
